Ramadan Dua’s

Ramadan is the month of fasting for all the Muslims who are followers of Islam. Ramadan is the ninth month of Islamic calendar and is the month of devotion of self to Allah. Muslims believe that duringthis month they must indulge themselves praying to Allah and concentrating less on their daily work schedules. Ramadan involves visiting mosque and praying. The prayers recited by Muslims on the occasion of Ramadan is said to be the Ramadan dua. During Ramadan Muslims have meals twice a day. One meal before the sunrise called suhoor and one meal after the sunset called Iftar.Muslims recite a dua before having their suhoor and Iftar meals.

Dua recited by Muslims the fast begins: Suhoor
Wa bisawmi ghadinn nawaiytu min shahri Ramadan.
I intend to keep the fast for tomorrow in the month of Ramadan.
[abu Dawud]

Dua recited by Muslims when they break the fast: Iftar

  • Allahumma inni laka sumtu wa bika aamantu [wa 'alayka tawakkaltu] wa 'ala rizq-ika aftarthu

O Allah! I fasted for You and I believe in You [and I put my trust in You] and I break my fast with Your sustenance ["wa 'alayka tawakkaltu" is quoted in some books of knowledge - but not all, hence it is in brackets] [abu Dawud]
  • dhahabadh-dhama'u wab-tallatil 'uruuqi, wa thabatal arju inshaAllah

The thrist is gone, the veins are moistened and the reward is confirmed, if Allah [Ta'ala] Wills
    [abu Dawud 2:306]
  • Allaahumma inni as’aluka birahmatika al-lati wasi'at kulli shay’in an taghfira li

O Allah, I ask You by Your mercy which envelopes all things, that You forgive me.
[a du'a that Abdullah ibn Amar (radiAllahu anhu) used to say when breaking his fast - as reported by Ibn abi Mulaykah (radiAllahu anhu)]

Dua recited by Muslims when they break the fast at someone’s home:
  • Aftara 'indakumus saa'imuna, wa akala ta'aamakumul-abraaru, wasallat 'alaikumul mala'ikat
May those who are fasting break their fast in your home, and may the dutiful and pious eat your food and may the angels send prayers upon you.
[abu Dawud 3:367, ibn Majah 1:556, an Nasa'i]

When does Ramadan begin and end can only be decided once the crescent moon is sighted. Muslims turn towards the Qiblah, raising hands towards the sky and recite the Dua given below:
  • My Lord and your Lord is Allah, the Lord of the worlds. O Allah for us let this month be a period of peace, faith safety and total submission to Thy will; make us walk apace swiftly to that which Thou likes and approves. O Allah pour out much blessings on us in this month, make available for us its generous good and assistance, and keep us safe from the harm, evil, misfortune and mischief that may try to trap us in this month.
  • Allahu Akbar. Allahumma ahillahu 'alayna bil-amni wal-imaani, was-salaamati, wal-Islami, wat-tawfeeqi lima tuhibbu Rabbana wa tardha. Rabbuna wa RabbukAllahu

Allah is the Greatest. O Allah bring us the new moon with security and faith, with peace and in Islam, and in harmony with what our Lord Loves and what pleases Him. Our Lord and your Lord is Allah
    [at-Tirmidhi 5:504, ad-Darimi 1:336]

During Ramadan days Muslims apart from reciting the five daily prayers they also recite special Prayer called Taraweeh Prayer also called as the night prayer given below:
  • Subhana dhil Mulki wal Malakuti, Subhana dhil izzati wal aDhmati wal haybati wal Qudrati, wal kibriyaa'i wal jabaroot Subhanal Malikil hayyil ladhi, la yunaamu wa la yamutu, Subbuhun, Quddusun, Rabbul malaa'ikati war-rooh
    La ilaha illal lahu, nustugfirullahi
nas 'alukul jannati, wa na udhubika min an-naar
Glorified is the Owner of the Kingdom of the earth and the heavens; Glorified is the Possessor of Honour and Magnificence and Awe, and Power and Greatness and Omnipotence
Glorified is the Sovereign, the Living, Who does neither sleep nor die
O all Glorious, All Holy one, Our lord and the Lord of the Angels, And the soul.
There is no God but You, Forgive us, Grant us Paradise, and save us from (hell) fire.
Ramadan importance can be felt among the Muslims for several reasons, as during this month the Holy Quran was revealed. Apart from this Lailatul Qadr, also called as the night of power. Lailatul Qadr is the most special night for all the Muslims who fast. It is believed that Lailatul Qadr night falls during the last 10 days of Ramadan during the odd days like 21st, 23rd, 25th, 27th or 29th. But many Muslims believe this night of power to be on 27th as it was originally on that day. The importance of Lailatul Qadr is explained by Allah in Quran as:

  • "Surely we have revealed the Qur'an on the Night of Al-Qadr;
    The Night of Al-Qadr is better than a thousand months;
The Angels and the Spirit (Jibrael) Descend in it
by their Lords' permission, with every decree.
Peace it is, until the break of Dawn."
Dua recited by Muslims on the Lailatul Qadr, The night of power:
  • Allahumma innaka 'affuwwun tuhibbul 'afwa fa'fu 'anni' "
Allah You are The One Who pardons greatly, and loves to pardon, so pardon me.

Ramadan Prayers (Dua) - Sehr, Iftar, Ashra, Tarawih, Moon

Tags

Fasting is intended to teach Muslims the virtues of patience, humility and spirituality, and is carried out as an offering to God. The holiday of Eid ul-Fitr marks the end of the fasting period of Ramadan and the first day of the following month, which is called called Shawwal.

Duties During Ramadan

Now here I compile some of the specific Ramadan Prayers (Ramadan Dua), which every Muslim should remember.

Sighting the New Moon

It is He Who made the sun to be a shining glory and the moon to be a light (of beauty) and measured out stages for her: that ye might know the number of years and the count (of time). Nowise did Allah create this but in truth and righteousness. (Thus) doth He explain his Signs in detail for those who understand.

First Ashra of Ramadan: First ten days of the blessed month of Ramadan are the days of Mercy. We should seek ALLAH's mercy in these days.

Second Ashra of Ramadan: The second ten days of Ramadan are the days of Forgiveness, Seek ALLAH's forgiveness and repent for all sins.

Third Ashra of Ramadan: The last 10 days of Ramadan are to seek Refuge in Allah from the Hellfire.

Night of Power: The night on which the first verses of the Quran were revealed to the Prophet, known as the Night of Power (Lailat ul-Qadar), is generally taken to be the 27th night of the month. The Quran states that this night is better than a thousand months. Therefore many Muslims spend the entire night in prayer.

Ramadan Aftari and Sehri Dua

Ramadan Tarawih Dua

Miscellaneous Dua

Next year resolution

It is a time to make a resolution for the next year to continue to pray in the masjid as much as we can, just as we have been doing in Ramadan. Let's also make a resolution for the next year to continue to read the Quraan as we have been doing in Ramadan.

RABBEE WA RABBUKALLAAHU RABBUL A'ALAMEEN ALLAAHUMMA AHILLAHOO A'LAYNAA BIL-AMNI WAL EEMAANI WAS SALAAMATI WAL ISLAAMI WAL MUSAARA-A'TI ILAA MAA TUH'IBBU WAL TARZ'AA ALLAAHUMMA BAARIK LANAA FEE SHARINAA HAAD'AA WAR-ZUQNAA KHAYRAHOO WA A'WNAHOO WAS'RIF A'NNAA Z'URRAHOO WA SHARRAHOO WA BALAAA-AHOO WA FITNATAHOO

My Lord and your Lord is Allah, the Lord of the worlds.

Dua of Imam Zainul Abedin (A.S.):

Imam Zainul Abedin (A.S.) used to invoke the following Dua at the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan: -

All praise is due to God who guided us to praise Him, and made us worthy of it in order that we may be grateful for His goodness, and that He may, thereupon confer on us the reward of the righteous.

And all praise be to God, who conferred on us His religion, and distinguished us with His creed, and conducted us into the path of His goodness, in order that, through His grace we may walk along them towards His approbation - a praise which He may accept from us, and on account of which He may be pleased with us.

And praise be to God who ordained His month, the month of Ramadan, the month of fasts, the month of Islam the month of purity, the month of purification and the month of standing up (for prayer) to be one of those paths. In this month the Qur'an was made to descend, as guidance to mankind and contains clear instruction and distinction (between right and wrong).

And He manifested its superiority to all the other months by allotting it abundant honors and celebrated excellence: therefore, He prohibited in it what He had allowed in other months in order to exalt it; and forbade in it food and drink, in order to honor it.

And appointed for it a definite time, which the High and Glorious doth not to be anticipated before it, and would not accept if delayed after it.

Then He gave excellence to one of its nights over a thousand months and named it 'Lailetul Qadr" the night of Qadr (destiny), wherein descend the angels and the spirit by permission of their Lord, for every matter; peace and everlasting blessing till the dawn of the morning to whomsoever of His servants He will, according to the decree confirmed by Him.

O Lord, bless Mohammad and his Aal (family) and inspire us to know its excellence and honor its dignity, and to abstain from whatever Thou hast forbidden in it; and help us to observe its fasts, by restraining our limbs from disobeying Thee and employing them in that which would please Thee:

So that we may not lend our ears to any vain (speech-such as singing, etc.) and may not direct our eyes towards any amusement; and so that we may not stretch our hands towards anything forbidden, and may not step with our feet towards anything prohibited; and so that nothing may fill our bellies but what Thou hast made lawful and our tongue may not utter anything save what Thou hast permitted; and we may cease to exert ourselves except in that which would bring us nearer Thy reward, and stop doing everything save that which would protect us from Thy torment.

Then, purify all this from showiness loved by the ostentatious and notoriety desired by seekers of fame (so that) we may not, in our worship of Thee, join anyone besides Thee, and may not, therein desire any other object except Thee.

O Lord, bless Mohammad and his Aal (family) and give us grace to perform timely the five prayers with due regard to their limits which Thou hast enjoined and ceremonies which Thou hast prescribed, and times which Thou hast fixed; and in this respect raise us to the rank of those who performed them (i.e., the five daily prayers) with success, who duly observed their essential points, who always performed them at (proper) times, in most perfect and complete purity and most evident and touching humility, according to the rules laid down by Thy servant and Thy apostle, Thy favors on him and his Aal (family), concerning their bows and prostrations and all the other excellent (rites).

And, O Lord, give us grace, in this month, to show favor to our relations and do good to them, and to take care of our neighbours with kindness and benevolence, and to purge our property of obligations, and purify it by giving the legal alms; and to call back him who deserted us, and be just to him who was unjust to us, and make peace with him who was hostile to us-far be it from us to reconcile him who is abhorred on account of Thee and for Thy sake; for, verily he is an enemy whom we will never be on good terms.

And give us grace, therein to approach Thee by means of pure deeds, whereby Thou mayest purify us of sins.

And guard us, therein, from, relapsing into blemishes, so that, none of Thy angels may have occasion to report unto Thee but such of conduct as would (necessarily) fall under the heads of obedience to Thee and means of approaching Thee.

O Lord, I beg Thee for the sake of this month, and for the sake of him who adored Thee in it, from its beginning to the time of its closing, whether he belonged to the class of angels whom Thou didst advance to nearness, or of prophets whom Thou didst send, or of pious servants whom Thou didst distinguish, to bless Muhammad and his Aal (family) and make us, in this month, worthy of that which Thou hast promised to Thy friend out of Thy bounty; and entitled us to that to which Thou hast entitled those who are most diligent in Thy service; and place us in the class of those who deserve high and exalter (rank) by Thy mercy.

O Lord, bless Mohammad and his Aal (family), and restrain us from unbelief in Thy unity, and deficiency in glorifying Thee and entertaining doubt in Thy religion, and being blind to Thy path, and neglecting to honor Thee, and being deceived by Satan, Thy enemy, the stoned one.

O Lord, bless Mohammad and his Aal (family), and since, in every night of the nights of this our month, there are men whom Thy pardon doth liberate, or whom Thy forbearance forgives, therefore, let us be of these men; and let us be to our month the best of people and companions.

O Lord, bless Mohammad and his Aal (family), and obliterate our sins along with the disappearance of its crescent, and remove from us our penalties with the expiration of its days; so that the month may pass from us while Thou hast cleansed us, within it, of guilt's, and freed us of sins.

O Lord, bless Mohammad and his Aal (family), and if we deviate in it then set us right; and if we hesitate make us firm, and if Satan, Thy enemy, overwhelms us then deliver us from him.

O Lord, fill this month with our worship of Thee alone, and adorn its moments with our service to Thee; and help us in the day-time to observe fast, and at night to pray and beseech Thee and humble (ourselves) unto Thee, and abase (ourselves) in thy presence; so that neither its day may bear witness against us of negligence, nor its night of default.

O Lord, and let us be like this in all the months and days, as long as Thou keeps us alive; and let us be of Thy righteous servants, who will inherit paradise, wherein they shall live forever; and who do give what they give with a fearing heart, for verily, they shall return to Thee! And let us be of those who are prompt in charity and excel therein.

O Lord confers blessings on Mohammad and his Aal (family), in every time and every moment, and in every condition, greater in number to the blessings Thou didst confer on whomsoever Thou didst bless: Verily Thou art the doer of what Thou resolves.

The Niyat (Intent) for keeping fast.

The fasts of the month of Ramadan are obligatory. When the Crescent is sighted we should declare to ourselves that, we will keep all fasts during this month wajib qurbatan ilallah i.e., to attain nearness to Allah. Just like Salat/Namaz (prayers) the Niyat of fasting is mental, and is the case with Niyat of every action. To declare it in words cannot only be defined as Niyat.

Lailat-ul-Qadr - A night that is better than a thousand months...

(Sorry, nothing new here, just a repeat of what has previoulsy been said on the forum, but all colated and posted in one topic to remind everyone)

It has been reported by the wife of the Prophet Muhammed (SAW), Aisha (RA):
"I asked the Messenger of Allah if I knew which night was the Lailatul-Qadr and what should I say during that night? He, The Messenger of Allah (SAW) said: Say: Allahumma innaka 'afu'wwun tuhibbul 'afwa fa'fu 'annee"
[Tirmidhi]

The translation of the above saying is "O Allah! You are most forgiving and you love to forgive, so forgive me". So we should try to engage ourselves in the repetition of this Du'a when seeking Lailat-ul-Qadr on the odd nights in the last ten days of Ramadhan.
The other things we should be doing on this night:
1).
We should stand in Qiyam, offering
Nafl Prayers (optional prayer, all multiples of 2 rakat), Ta Hajjud is the one most people are familair with, others include:
TAHIAT-UL-MASJID Nafl prayer consisting of 2 rakats, offered upon entering a MasjidTAHIAT-UL-WUDU - 2 rakats offerred immediately after performing Wudu whilst the limbs are still wet
HAJJUD -
The early part of the night, after Isha before midnight (up to 2 rakats)TA HAJJUD - The later part of the night, after Midnight but before Fajr (up to 12 rakats)SALAT-UT-TAWBAH - Prayer seeking forgiveness, can be offered at any time of the day except at those time when it is forbidden to pray (As many rakats as you like, in multiples of 2)ISHRAAQ - After sunsrise but before noon (up to 4 rakats)
Prophet Muhammad (SAW) said about Lailat-ul-Qadr:"Anyone who stays awake during the Night of Power with belief (IMAAN) and for the pleasure of Allah, all his previous sins will be forgiven."
[Sahih Bukhari and Sahih Muslim]
"Whoever stands (in prayer) on the night of power with Iman and with hope of reward all his previous sins are forgiven."[Sahih Bukhari and Sahih Muslim]

The Messenger of Allah (SAW) said, "If any of you enters the Mosque, let him not sit until he prays two rakats."
[Sahih Bukhari and Sahih Muslim]

Abu Hurayra (RA) related that the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said to Bilal, "Oh Bilal, tell me about a work that you are most hopeful about (being rewarded for) from the works you have done in Islam, for I heard the thumping of your sandals in front of me in Jannah."
He said, "I did not do a work more hopeful to me, except that I never performed ablution in an hour of night or day without praying with that ablution what was written for me to pray."

[Sahih Bukhari and Sahih Muslim]
The Prophet, Muhummed (SAW) is reported to have said, "He who performs Fajr Salaat with Jamaat and remains seated in the same place while engaging in Dhikr until after sunrise and thereafter performs 2 Rakaats of Ishraaq, he will obtain the Thawaab of one Hajj and one Umrah."
[Tirmidhi]

The Prophet, Muhummed (SAW) is reported to have said, "He who says Ishraq prayers without fail shall have his lesser sins forgiven even though they may be as numerous as foam specks on the surface of the sea."
[Tirmidhi]
2). We should be pre-occupied in Dhikr of Allah (Remembrance of Allahat every opportunity and recite the Du'a:Allahumma innaka 'afu'wwun tuhibbul 'afwa fa'fu 'annee
Or the variation:
Allahumma innaka 'afu'wwun kareemun tuhibbul 'afwa fa'fu 'annee ya kareem

3). We should also refer to read the holy book, Al-Qur'an.

4). We should make Du'a, seeking refuge in Allah from the torment of the Hell fire, seeking his mercy, asking for his forgiveness, seeking his guidance.
Those doing All-Nighter's, do not forget to pray Ishraaq to benefit from the reward of one Hajj and one Umrah.
